Come quilt with us!! We meet on Tuesday mornings. While many folks purchase or bring fabric, there is no requirement. There is no cost for this class. We hope you will consider coming to quilt with us!

You can also quilt at home and share your quilts with us (see requirements below)

We also accept donations towards backing, batting and the quilting of the materials. This takes a special machine to connect the layers of the quilts and can be costly.

Basic Requirements

  • Quilt size-An ideal size is around 50”x70”. Please no smaller than 55”x65” and no larger than 72”x90”.
  • Prints-we would like for the quilts to become family heirlooms. For this reason, we prefer not to use children's prints. Children become teenagers, who become adults. Any other print is acceptable!
  • Completed quilts should consist of a top, batting, backing and binding. Quilts should be machine or hand quilted. (No tied quilts, please)
  • Backing donated for a volunteer long arm quilter should be 4”-6” larger on all sides (8”-12” wider and longer) than the quilt top. Pieced backing should be free of selvage edges.
  • Batting should be quality, low loft, natural fiber(cotton, bamboo, etc) and should be 8”-12” larger than the quilt top.
  • Quilting should be proportional to the size of the quilt, not too loose or dense.
  • Binding-Double fold (French Fold), pieced on the diagonal and sewn on by machine is preferred for durability. It can be finished by hand or machine.
  • Labels-we will add a label to the quilt in order to personalize it for the family. If you would like to send a personal note to the family include it with the quilt.
  • Monetary donations- Quality quilts are an investment. The cost of materials for this size quilt is between $120-$200 (this includes fabric for the top, batting, backing, binding and thread). The actual quilting (stitching together of the top, batting and backing) is $50-$75 unless donated. Monetary donations are always welcome to purchase materials or pay for quilting. Any amount helps!
  • Quilts will be presented to the fallen firefighter’s family members the first weekend in May each year in Raleigh.

Thank you for helping us honor these selfless men and women!
